Sometimes work is so fun. I had to observe a fish and wildlife class where they were surveying the fish population in a stream. I would of stayed the whole time if I did not have another meeting to go to.
Those are the shockers. They essentially take a car size battery and up the voltage to a level that stuns the fish so that they can be collected, identified, measured, and then returned to the stream (probably with a bit of a headache...if fish get such a thing). The two posts essentially become the two electrodes. It is obviously important to wear rubber waders and rubber gloves. The Fish and Wildlife folks are required to carry a defibrillator with them. (Like those on airplanes now).
